Getting Started
Windows
Prerequisites
- This guide assumes you have administrator rights on your Windows PC
- The PC has an Ethernet NIC configured to acquire its IP address via DHCP
Steps to Access the Device
- Make sure nothing is connected to the WeOS device
- Make sure your PC is not connected to any network
- Power on the switch (insert the power cable)
- Use an Ethernet cable to connect your Windows PC to an Ethernet port on the device

- Open File Explorer (a.k.a Windows Explorer), shortcut Win-E, on your PC, and click on the Network item in the left pane in Windows 10. (In Windows 7 you find the Network item after expanding the Desktop item.)
- The WeOS switch should appear as Infrastructure Equipment in the right pane. The switch will be named as a concatenation of its name and the last digits of its MAC address, e.g., redfox-41-5a-80.
See the Troubleshooting section below in case of problems.
-
Double-click on the icon of the device to access the device via your web-browser.
-
Login using the default login name (admin) and password (admin).
-
When logged in, you are presented with the default screen.
-
To assign a static IP address to your switch, use menu path Configuration, Network and Interface to list the existing interfaces.
-
Enter Interface Edit Configuration page for the appropriate interface (here vlan1) by selecting the Edit icon for that interface.
- Click the Add button and enter the appropriate IP address as prefix length (here 192.168.1.1/24).
- Click Apply button, which applies the new setting and takes you back to the Interface Overview Configuration Page.
To remove the other address methods used (here DHCP and Link-local), please enter the Interface Edit Configuration page for the interface (here vlan1) and delete those methods if desired.
Note: deleting the Link-local method will break the connection to the web service once the change is applied. To access the web page again, you need to login again using the newly assigned IP address (here https://192.168.1.1).
Troubleshooting
If Network discovery is not enabled on your Windows PC this dialog, or a similar screen, may appear.
Then enable Network discovery and try again. Please contact your systems administrator if you need assistance to enable Network discovery.
If Network discovery is enabled, but no WeOS device appears in the infrastructure list:
- Verify that the switch has power by inspecting that (at least one) power LED indicate GREEN. If not, ensure the power cable is inserted correctly.
- Ensure that the Ethernet cable is properly connected between the PC and the WeOS switch, and verify that the port LED on the switch shows GREEN (indicates link-up). If not, contact your system administrator for assistance.
- Verify that your Ethernet NIC is configured to acquire its IP address via DHCP. If not, change the setting to use DHCP.
- Contact your system administrator for further assistance. Alternatively, you login to your unit using a console cable (described below).
